The Upton Fire Department is a municipal department which provides fire, and rescue services to the Town of Upton, Massachusetts. The Department is staffed Monday through Saturday by full-time fire fighters and 24 hours a day by 28 paid call firefighters.  The community’s newly constructed, modern fire station is located at 20 Church Street

FIRE AND RESCUE CALLS:
The Fire Department responds to approximately 300 Fire and Rescue calls each year.  For fire suppression and rescues, the Department maintains three engine companies, one Ladder and one Rescue Truck.  The Department provides for a wide variety of rescues including ice rescue, fire rescue, confined space rescue and auto extrication.

MUNICIPAL FIRE ALARMS:
The Fire Alarm Division reviews fire alarm circuitry in commercial and municipal buildings.   These alarm systems are connected into the Fire Department Communications Center along with the Town’s 911 emergency dispatch system.   Alarms are received via a Hard-wired Call Box system.   This system does not rely on Municipal power to operate assuring receipt of alarm regardless of weather conditions.

FIRE SAFETY AND PREVENTION:
The Department sponsors a fire safety and prevention program in local schools called S.A.F.E.  - (Student Awareness of Fire Education).  Educating youngsters on the dangers of fire and being safe around fire at early ages, has reduced the number of fires involving young people.  We work closely with law enforcement officials and provide counseling and education to youngsters who cause unsafe fire situations.  Our Fire Prevention office inspects and reviews buildings, homes and new construction for smoke detectors and other fire devices outlined by Town ordinance and state regulations.   Upton Emergency Management presents updated and current notices and bulletin’s relating to Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management on the  Local Access Charter Communications Cable Channel 11.

JUVENILE FIRESETTERS PROGRAM:
The Juvenile Firesetters Intervention Program seeks to identify the motivations associated with fire setting with a focus on changing the behavior, and providing fire safety education for the child and family.  Confidentiality is a top priority with the Upton Fire Department Juvenile Firesetters Intervention Program.   It is also the law.   Assessment of your child may be obtained by calling Fire Department Headquarters at (508) 529.3421 and requesting to speak to the Officer in charge.  The Officer in charge will make arrangements to have a trained member of our team meet with you at a convenient place and time.

According to the Merriam Webster's Dictionary:
A fire fighter is defined as "a person who fights fires." But a fire fighter does much more than fight fires.   Today's fire fighter is a multifaceted individual trained in Emergency Medical Technician procedures; technical rescue disciplines such as structural collapse rescue, tunnel rescue, confined space rescue, trench collapse rescue; rescue scuba diving, as well as fire fighting
