Upton EMS is staffed by a group of dedicated Emergency Medicat Technicans that responded to emergency incidents, as well as non-emergency community service events. The men and women who answer calls for help are all doing this in the sense of giving to the community. The "duty-shift" for the average Upton EMT consists of being on call (via portable radio) from 9 PM until 6 AM, once a week. During that time, should an emergency call come in, the on-call EMTs go to the ambulance and then the scene of the emergency, to render assistance.

Upton’s Ambulance Service is staffed by community members that dedicate their time and energy to the service of the Town Upton EMS operates at the Basic Life Support (BLS) level of training.  Many have received advanced training in Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) and some also are trained as paramedics, nurses, engineers, fire fighters, etc. These varied skills and experiences help make the organization a strong and more adapatble team.

If a medical situation calls for advanced medical care Upton EMS often calls on the services of paramedics operating out of Milford Hospital Paramedic Service, or paramedics from neighboring private ambulance services, such as AMR Ambulance, or Pathways Ambulance.  At other times the LifeFlight Helicopter from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center (Trauma Center for Central Massachusetts) is called to land in Upton to take patients to a Level 1 Trauma Center.
