Projects funded with Community Preservation Act funds include the following: Open Space · Study to assess the amount, desirability and usefulness of large tracts of vacant land for use by the Town of Upton or for preservation - $35,570 · Purchase in conjunction with the Upton Historical Commission of 7+ acres of land on Mill Pond to be developed as a Town park - $400,000 · Partial contribution to fund an appraisal of land adjacent to the Upton State Forest. This was done in conjunction with a number of other environmental agencies - $1,000 Historic Preservation · Purchase of Elm Street property to preserve an archeologically significant stone chamber - $400,000 (as mentioned above) · Computerization of cemetery records dating from the early 1800’s - $3,000 · Preservation of historic Town records from the 1700’s to the present and reconfiguration of space in Town vault - $67,453 · Partial funding of replacement of granite steps at Police Headquarters (old Ball School) - $14,250 · Evaluation of structures and places in Town which could qualify for the National Register of Historic Places and the completion of application and nomination forms - $20,000 Recreation · Contribution to Blackstone Valley Technical High School to help develop nature trails on property donated to the school by an Upton citizen for use as an athletic complex - $12,000 · Study to determine Town’s recreational needs both short and long term - $15,000 · Funding for engineering work and design work for athletic field at Glen Echo development - $47,000 · Funds to dig a well and install irrigation at the West River soccer field site - $20,600 Community Housing · Helped establish a Housing Partnership Committee to explore opportunities to develop affordable housing |
