The Upton Board of Health is run by three board members, elected by town residents at the annual town meetings.   The Board of Health has several responsibilities relating to public health, such as inspecting food establishments, receiving and acting on complaints regarding human health and sanitary housing, overseeing the towns curbside trash and recycling program.

Among its many responsibilities, the Board of Health is in charge of supervising the design and placement of septic systems in the town.  The regulations for these systems are based on State of Massachusetts legislation: Wastewater Management (Title 5) Publications.

The Board also has an agent, who completes most of the inspections and fieldwork.  The adm. clerk is in the BOH office to handle all calls, complaints, and inquiries.
